A historic mining town in the snowy mountains of North
Idaho was the birthplace of Greencastle Soap. Driven by the
needs of my own very dry skin I made my first batch of soap
during the winter of 1990. Amazingly enough, the soap was
a creamy, beautiful success that I was pleased to share with
friends. Almost immediately they came back asking if I had
any more of "that soap".
Since that time Greencastle has grown into a lively business
that keeps me busy year-round. Traveling to arts and crafts
shows from March through December can be a challenge but mostly
it's a joy to meet new people, see new country and reconnect
with longtime customers and friends.
Greencastle Soaps are made by hand using all natural ingredients.
Poured in wooden molds and individually cut, they provide
a lavish lather that will not dry your skin. Each bar contains
a soothing blend of tallow or palm oil for hardness, coconut oil for lather
and nearly 30% olive oil for its wonderful skin softening
properties.
My mission is to:
• Preserve an ancient art
• Produce high quality soaps that nourish the skin
• Feed my own creative needs and the senses of others with enchanting and beneficial
soaps
• Honor all that is good in making a living with one's
own hands
It's been a labor of love to grow Greencastle into the thriving
cottage industry it is today. To work at something one loves
to do is a rare gift, and for that I am grateful.
